The documentary covers the life and career of the Thin Lizzy frontman.

Without a single, solitary shadow of a doubt, the most recognisable Irish person in hard rock is and always has been Phil Lynott of Thin Lizzy.

Their music and his attitude went on to inspire the likes of Metallica, Alice In Chains, not to mention them being contemporaries of the likes of Iron Maiden, Def Leppard, and Judas Priest. For Phil Lynott, however, his solo career was markedly different from the high-octane rock of Thin Lizzy.

Far closer to soul and old-school rhythm and blues, songs like 'Old Town' and 'Yellow Pearl', Lynott's experiences as being a black man in Dublin, identifying as an Irishman yet being conflated with the British rock scene, all played a part in his music and his craft.

The first trailer for 'Songs For While I'm Away' landed online on what would have been Phil Lynott's 71st birthday, and gives a hint of what's in store for the documentary. There are also interviews with the likes of James Hetfield of Metallica, and Adam Clayton of U2, as well as archival footage of some of Thin Lizzy's best concerts.

No release date has been set as of yet for the movie, but it's expected to be released some time before the end of this year. In the meantime, here's the trailer.
