Jonah Hill's loss is Paul Dano's gain.

Paul Dano, star of 'There Will Be Blood', 'Little Miss Sunshine' and 'Prisoners', has been cast as Edward Nygma - better known as The Riddler - in Matt Reeves' upcoming take on 'The Batman'.

Dano will join Zoe Kravitz as Catwoman and Robert Pattinson as Batman in the latest iteration of the Caped Crusader to hit cinema screens. Previously, Jonah Hill was in the running and dropped out over salary negotiations, paving the way for Paul Dano to take on the role.

So far, Catwoman and The Riddler are the only villains announced so far, however Reeves has promised that a full "rogue's gallery" of villains will feature in the movie, meaning there'll likely be more casting announcements in the coming months. The Riddler has been an integral part of Batman's mythology, first appearing in 1948. Since then, the character has been played by the likes of John Astin, Frank Gorshin, Robert Englund (yes, Freddy Kruger), and - of course - Jim Carrey.

Currently, there's no reliable or confirmed information on what sort of tone Matt Reeves is going for with 'The Batman', but considering the kind of actors he's been recruiting, it's definitely not what you'd call comedy or anything remotely similar to the '60s version of Batman.

'The Batman' is scheduled for release on June 25th, 2021.
