The film was due to start filming in 2022

'Rogue Squadron', a new 'Star Wars' movie that was set to be directed by Patty Jenkins, will take longer to launch into filming than expected.

Patty Jenkins, who's known as the director of 'Wonder Woman' and 'Monster', has been developing the 'Star Wars' feature with writer Matthew Robinson ('The Invention of Lying', 'Love and Monsters') for over a year.

The original goal was to start production in 2022, with pre-production commencing at the end of this year.

However, according to Deadline, due to Patty Jenkins' work schedule and other commitments, the producers and filmmaking team have come to the conclusion that 2022 isn't feasible for the project.

Thus 'Rogue Squadron' has been removed from the schedule.

It was set to be the first 'Star Wars' movie since 2019's 'Episode IX - The Rise of Skywalker'.

The project was announced back in December 2020.

Patty Jenkins is currently in development on 'Wonder Woman 3' for Warner Bros.

She's also making a 'Cleopatra' feature for Paramount, which will also star Gal Gadot.

Originally, the director was going to make 'Squadron' ahead of the 'Wonder Woman' threequel, but this may have changed.

The hope is that once Patty Jenkins has fulfilled her various commitments, she'll return to the 'Star Wars' project.

In the meantime, there'll be plenty of 'Star Wars' TV content starting with 'Book of Boba Fett' debuting next month.

After that there's 'Obi-Wan Kenobi', 'Andor', 'Ahsoka' and 'The Mandalorian' season 3.
