The actor voiced the lovable bear from Peru in the first two films
If you're a fan of the 'Paddington' films and were rubbing your paws at the prospect of a third installment - don't get too excited.
The little bear fond of marmalade sandwiches who hails from deepest, darkest Peru was due to return for a second sequel, following the success of 'Paddington' (2014) and 'Paddington 2' (2017).
The third film, reportedly titled 'Paddington in Peru', was rumoured to start filming in London and Peru this year, with Dougal Wilson confirmed to take over directorial duties from Paul King, who directed the first two. Wilson even told The Hollywood Reporter last June: "As a huge fan of the first two films, I am very excited (if not a little intimidated) to be continuing the story of Paddington."
However, actor Ben Whishaw, who voices Paddington in the films, has said that even he is not sure whether it's happening or not - sparking rumours that the film is stuck in development.
In fact, Whishaw told Collider during a recent appearance at the Sundance Film Festival that he had not even seen a script for the new film yet.
“I haven't read this script and I don't even know when we're due to shoot it," he said. "I don't know. I thought it would be happening by now, but I don't know. It's gone silent in the way that sometimes these things do. Maybe that just means they're still working on it, or maybe it means it's not happening, or you just don't know.”
Here's hoping that it's the former.
