Could we be seeing a runion of the two finest actors of their generation for the first time since Heat? Granted, I'm completely ignoring the dire Righteous Kill, but for very good reason - it was a piece of sh*t.

Deadline.com are this morning reporting that Al Pacino is thinking of joining the cast of what may be Martin Scorsese's next feature after Hugo Cabret, The Irishman. Robert De Niro has been developing the project, about infamous mobster hitman Frank "The Irishman" Sheeran, for some time, with Michael Mann also linked with helming at one point. Deadline are saying that there could be a role for none other than Joe Pesci as well, making it a Goodfellas reunion if casting falls into place.

Those two men working under the guidance of a truly great filmmaker (be it Scorsese or Mann) is a mouthwatering prospect. The last great Al Pacino performance came in Michael Mann's The Insider, but that was over ten years ago now; how far do we have to go back to find a De Niro classic?
