Although it's probably one of the most talked-about events of the year, it seems fewer and fewer people actually watched the Oscars as it happened - and instead followed the proceedings online.
Even with all the hullabaloo about the Best Picture mix-up, the politically-charged speeches and Jimmy Kimmel hosting, the Oscars' ratings have dropped for the third straight year. According to figures obtained by THR, the Academy Awards' telecast on ABC only brought in an average of 32.9 million viewers, compared to last year's 34.4 million average viewers.
Nevertheless, the Oscars still earned a tidy sum from advertising revenue, earning close to $115 million, and was the longest telecast in over ten years, lasting a total of three hours and 49 minutes.
Meanwhile, the Grand High Cheeto himself, Donald Trump, weighed into the Oscars and Jimmy Kimmel's opening jab about Trump's racism and the mid-ceremony tweet in an interview on Fox. According to Trump, "it just seems like the other side, whenever they’re losing badly, they always pull out the race card. I’ve watched it for years."
"I watched it against Ronald Reagan, I’ve watched it against so many other people. And they always like pulling out the race card. In fact, I did much better than many other... Republicans in the last election. I did much better with Hispanics, I did much better with African Americans."
In a separate interview with neo-Nazi-enablers Breitbart, Trump said that the mix-up on the night was down to the fact that "they were focused so hard on politics that they didn’t get the act together at the end." Elucidating his point further, the Grand High Cheeto explained that the mix-up "took away from the glamour of the Oscars. It didn’t feel like a very glamorous evening. I’ve been to the Oscars. There was something very special missing, and then to end that way was sad."
You elected this dipshit, America. Now we all have to live with it.
