With an Oscar-nominated screenwriter attached
No one saw it coming (see what we did there?), but 'Now You See Me' and its sequel proved to be major hits in 2013 and 2016, respectively.
Thus 'Now You See Me 3' is now in the works.
In spite of mixed reviews from critics, the first film grossed $351.7 million at the box office while the second made $334.9 million.
The series follows a team of magicians known as the Four Horsemen, who pull off bank heists and robberies.
The ensemble cast includes Jesse Eisenberg, Woody Harrelson, Mark Ruffalo, Isla Fisher, Dave Franco, Michael Caine, and Morgan Freeman.
Lionsgate has announced that they are officially making a threequel.
They've hired a writer in Eric Warren Singer, who worked on the Oscar-nominated screenplay for 'American Hustle'. He also worked on the upcoming 'Top Gun: Maverick'.
There have been no official casting announcements. However Nathan Kahane, President of Lionsgate Motion Picture Group, said there will be "key returning cast and new characters."
He announced: "Eric has always been fascinated with the fine art of deception and illusion in all of its forms and he came to us with a great story that takes the mythology of 'Now You See Me' and pushes The Four Horsemen to a whole new level."
There is a possibility the sequel will be a spin-off as "Singer’s fresh take will capture the fun, magic, and spirit of the original, introducing new characters into the world while also creating opportunities for the original cast to reprise their roles."
