"I couldn't walk on set feeling undervalued"

Neve Campbell is just as much the face of the 'Scream' franchise as Ghostface, but the star won't be returning for the upcoming 'Scream 6'.

Campbell left the franchise earlier this summer after salary negotiations broke down, and has shed some light on her departure.

Speaking to People Magazine, Campbell said "I did not feel that what I was being offered equated to the value that I bring to this franchise, and have brought to this franchise, for 25 years."

Campbell shot to fame for playing Sidney Prescott in the 1996 classic, and has appeared in every film in the franchise since, including this year's legacy sequel.

"As a woman in this business, I think it’s really important for us to be valued and to fight to be valued. I honestly don’t believe that if I were a man and had done five installments of a huge blockbuster franchise over 25 years, that the number that I was offered would be the number that would be offered to a man.”

“In my soul, I just couldn’t do that. I couldn’t walk on set feeling that — feeling undervalued and feeling the unfairness, or lack of fairness, around that."

Campbell currently stars in the Netflix hit 'The Lincoln Lawyer' and will be next seen on our screens in a TV version of hit video game franchise 'Twisted Metal'.

Back in the world of Ghostface and friends, the new 'Scream' film, directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett reuniting with their 'Ready or Not' star Samara Weaving for the film.

It remains to be seen how the film will address Campbell's departure, with Sidney established in the 2022 'Scream' that her character has moved away from Woodsboro to set up a family, so writing around her departure would be a fairly easy way for filmmakers to overtly address the issue, but would be sure to rankle long-term fans of the series.

The next 'Scream' film will hit Irish screens on March 31st next year.
