The most obvious bit of casting news took longer than expected to arrive.

There was no chance - no chance at all, in fact - that a new 'Scream' movie was going to be made without having Neve Campbell in there somewhere.

Sure, 'Halloween' may have soldiered on without Jamie Lee-Curtis for a few in the '80s, but are any of those entries worth talking about? Of course not. It'd be like 'Fast and Furious' doing a movie without Vin Diesel or someone in the cast not mentioning the word "family" while standing on a clifftop with a prop car behind them.

So it goes that Neve Campbell has finally picked up the phone and answered in the affirmative that she likes scary movies, particularly ones which see her back in the role of Sidney Prescott. In a carefully-worded statement, Campbell said that the director-duo of Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett "have shown such love, respect and admiration for Wes Craven and all that he’s created in the 'Scream' franchise", and that she's "beyond excited to step back into the role of Sidney Prescott and return to Woodsboro."

Campbell joins franchise stalwarts Courteney Cox and David Arquette, while newcomers Jack Quaid, Jenna Ortega, and Melissa Barrera are set to have themselves potentially gutted like a fish by a man in a rubber mask at some point.

The as-yet untitled continuation of the 'Scream' franchise lands on January 14th, 2022.
