Eddie Murphy has just taken one of the biggest hits of his career, as his latest effort Meet Dave flopped at the American box office - taking in an estimated $5.3 million from a $60 million budget. The film, which reteamed Murphy with his Norbit director Brian Robbins, was beaten to seventh place in the chart by Hellboy II: The Golden Army, which coined $35.9 million, and Journey To The Centre Of The Earth which took in $20.6 million. Reviews for 'Dave' were negative, but hardly any worse than the former comedian's back catalogue of the past decade or so. Hellboy's success is being attributed to strong reviews and an aggressive marketing campaign. 'Journey' opened big in most of the 800 odd 3D screens in America; but they also charge a couple of dollars extra for the privilege of seeing pointy out stuff - which would've added to its weekend haul.
