Mild mannered Brit actress Carey Mulligan has been tipped for the role of Hillary Clinton in the new biopic Rodham. The Great Gatsby starlet has beaten the likes of Scarlett Jonansson, Jessica Chastain and Emma Stone to be the first choice for the biopic filmmakers. Moving from 20's belle to a modern Secretary of State has got to be a bit of a head spin.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the film focuses on Clinton's early years as a young lawyer working on the impeachment case of ex-US President Richard Nixon. The script has been penned by Young II Kim and is set to be directed by James Ponsoldt, the creator of last year's Sundance Film Festival Indie Smashed. The danger in this casting is Mulligan's fragility doesn't match up to Clinton's dogged forcefulness that has earned her the title of fem-bot by many, so Mulligan better start getting steely-eyed. Some Rocky theme music and a 'female boss' nickname should do the trick. However, both Mulligan and Ponsoldt are quietly tenacious when it comes to their film roles so Rodham has every chance of packing a good clout next year both in cinemas and at the festivals.
