Respect (10th September)
Musical biopics have been all the rage in recent years with such films as 'Bohemian Rhapsody' and 'Rocketman' proving big successes. This one follows the rise of Aretha Franklin's career from a child singing in her father's church's choir to her international superstardom. Jennifer Hudson plays Aretha and the likes of Forest Whittaker, Marlon Wayans, Audra McDonald, Marc Maron, Tituss Burgess, and Mary J. Blige star in supporting roles. It’s the best performance Hudson has given since 'Dreamgirls' and when she sings, it will genuinely give you goosebumps.
Malignant (10th September)
'Malignant' is the latest creation from the 'Conjuring' universe architect James Wan. Wan returns to the director’s chair for the first time since 'Aquaman'. The new original horror thriller follows Maddison (Annabelle Wallis), who is paralysed by shocking visions pf grisly murders, and her torment worsens when she discovers that these waking dreams are in fact terrifying realities. The mystery of her visions, it seems, has links to an imaginary friend that haunted her as a child. Horror fans won’t want to miss this.
The Many Saints of Newark (22nd September)
'Sopranos' fans have been waiting with bated breath for a long time for the spin-off movie to the iconic TV series that was promised. 'The Many Saints of Newark' sees the late James Gandolfini’s son Michael play a younger version of his most renowned character – Tony Soprano. Also in the cast are Alessandro Nivola, Leslie Odom Jr., Jon Bernthal, Corey Stoll, Billy Magnussen, Michela De Rossi, John Magaro, Ray Liotta and Vera Farmiga. Shot on location in New Jersey and New York, several beloved characters from the original series that inspired the film are featured in the movie.
No Time to Die (30th September)
Of all the movies listed, this one may very well be the most anticipated. Director Cary Joji Fukunaga's movie will centre on Daniel Craig's Bond for the final time. Rami Malek is on hand as the main villain of the piece this time around, the creepily masked Safin. Christoph Waltz's Blofeld from 'Spectre' will also appear. Naomie Harris, Léa Seydoux, Ralph Fiennes and Ben Whishaw will all be reprising their roles as well. Ana de Armas and Lashana Lynch join the cast as two of Bond's new special agent colleagues.
And here are the movies you can watch on Netflix...
Worth (now showing)
This drama is inspired by true events which happened following 9/11. Michael Keaton plays attorney Kenneth Feinberg, who is in charge of the Victim Compensation Fund allocated to those who lost family members during the September 11th attacks in New York City in 2011. Joining Keaton in the cast is Stanley Tucci, who plays community organiser Charles Wolf. Amy Ryan rounds out the leading trio, playing the role of Camille Biros, who works with Feinberg in order to assess the "worth" of these grieving families.
Nightbooks (15th September)
This dark fantasy film comes from David Yarovesky, who previously directed 'Brightburn'. Krysten Ritter of 'Breaking Bad' and 'Jessica Jones' fame leads the cast and Sam Raimi is among the film’s producers. A young boy named Alex becomes the prisoner of a witch (Ritter); to avoid certain death, he convinces her to let him tell her a scary story every night. Upon meeting the witch's servant, Yazmin, the two must use their wits to escape her apartment, a magical labyrinth filled with various dangers, before the witch kills them both.
Schumacher (15th September)
Through exclusive interviews and archival footage, this documentary traces an intimate, yet critical portrait of seven-time Formula 1 champion Michael Schumacher. This is the only film fully supported by Michael Schumacher’s family. 'Schumacher' explores the many facets that made and define this complex athlete. It accompanies him on his meteoric rise in this challenging and dangerous sport. Michael Schumacher’s journey has captured the imagination of millions. But there is a lot more than motor racing to the success of this very private man.
The Starling (24th September)
Fans of 'Bridesmaids' will only be delighted to see its stars Melissa McCarthy and Chris O’Dowd reunited on the screen. But bear in mind that tonally this is a very different kind of movie. After Lilly (McCarthy) suffers a loss, she battles with a territorial bird (The Starling) over dominion of her garden. Kevin Kline stars as Larry, a quirky psychologist-turned-veterinarian with a troubled past of his own. He and Lilly form a unique and unlikely friendship.
