The original release date for the feature was July 10, 2020
The release of Marvel movie 'Morbius', starring Jared Leto in the titular role, has been delayed yet again.
'Morbius' was set to hit cinemas later this month on January 28.
It will now open three months later on April 1, 2022.
According to Deadline, the reason for the postponement may be Sony's huge and continuing success with 'Spider-Man: No Way Home'.
It is the highest grossing film of 2021.
'No Way Home' has thus far made $1.37 billion worldwide and it is continuing to reap box office success, hence the delay for Sony's latest.
The original release date for 'Morbius' was July 10, 2020, and it has experienced a number of delays since.
The first move saw it pushed by three weeks to July 31, 2020.
When the pandemic hit, its release date was moved to March 19, 2021.
The release date was then altered to the month of Halloween, on October 8, 2021.
Then January 21, 2022, was the new release date, until it got another three week push, followed by its current release date.
The movie is based on the character of Morbius, the Living Vampire, and has been in the works at Sony for many years.
Leto has been attached as the star since 2018.
He is joined by Matt Smith, Adria Arjona, Jared Harris, Al Madrigal, and Tyrese Gibson in the cast.
Daniel Espinosa ('Life', 'Child 44') directs.
The feature film follows Dr. Michael Morbius, who suffers from a rare blood disease.
He attempts a dangerous cure that afflicts him with a form of vampirism.
'Morbius' opens on April 1, 2022.
