Paramount Pictures was on the receiving end of both good news and bad news over the weekend. The bad news was their latest Mike Myers vehicle The Love Guru flopped at the box office on its opening weekend, taking in a measly $13.92 million compared to its budget of $62 million. The good news, however, is that The Love Guru's performance at the box office helped take Paramount's ticket sales for this calendar year past the $1 billion mark in the US, three weeks quicker than they achieved that sum last year. Last week the studio announced that they reached the $1 billion mark in overseas sales too, so that should soften the blow of The Love Guru's poor performance and give them enough bank to make a few more flops next year.
