Not the multiverse that you're used to
Daniel Sheinert and Daniel Kwan, collectively known as the Daniels, direct the sci-fi film. It will be their second feature film after 2016's 'Swiss Army Man'.
The trailer, released by A24 today focuses on Evelyn (Yeoh), an exhausted Chinese American woman struggling to finish her taxes. She is taught to tap into the memories and skills of her multiverse counterparts. The film will also feature Stephanie Hsu, Ke Huy Quan, James Hong, Jamie Lee Curtis, Harry Shum Jr., and Jenny Slate.
Yeoh is best known for her parts in 'Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon' and 'Crazy Rich Asians'.
There's a lot of action in the trailer to get you excited. For example, exploding confetti heads, screaming raccoons, animation and some magical colour-shifting nails.
The Daniels produced the film with other well-known film-making duo Anthony Russo and Joe Russo, alongside Jonathan Wang. Josh Rudnick will also act as executive producer.
The duo are best known for their music videos, specifically 'Turn Down For What' by Lil John and DJ Snake. Their big screen debut 'Swiss Army Man', which starred Daniel Radcliffe and Paul Dano, received critical acclaim upon its release. They subsequently won a SXSW directing award. The film is a bizarre but heart-warming tale of a man becoming best friends with a corpse.
The film will open the 2022 SXSW film festival next March. SXSW Director of Film Janet Pierson expressed her delight:
“We are thrilled to premiere Daniels’ latest work, which is fantastically inventive, entertaining, emotionally grounded, and crammed with the exceptional creativity that makes their projects so satisfying. Audiences are going to have their minds blown by this extraordinary feat of filmmaking.”
