Starring Tom Holland in the title role, Spider-Man: Homecoming blew everyone away last summer and now it looks like an excellent cast is being rounded up for its sequel.
According to Variety, the returning cast members include Holland, Zendaya, Marisa Tomei and Michael Keaton in the role of Vulture. In Homecoming, Vulture survives and can be spotted in prison in a post-credits scene.
Jake Gyllenhaal is in talks to play the villain Mysterio in the new film. Mysterio is the alter ego of Quentin Beck, a special effects expert and stuntman who uses his skills to create elaborate illusions that make it appear as if he has superpowers. He uses these skills to commit crimes and as a stuntman, he’s quite skilled in hand-to-hand combat.
If Gyllenhaal signs up, this would mark his first comic-book movie role (though he has previously been associated with taking on the part of Batman).
Jon Watts is back as director with Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley penning the script, but plot details are being kept under wraps.
The Spider-Man: Homecoming sequel is scheduled for July 5, 2019, and Tom Holland previously confirmed there will be three Spider-Man movies in all. The follow-up follows Peter Parker in his junior year at Midtown School of Science and Technology following the events of Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers 4.
