Hollywood stalwart Michael Douglas is probably the first actor that springs to mind when you think of a good sex scene. Though perhaps not if you haven't seen Fatal Attraction... or Basic Instinct. Anyhoo, he certainly knows what he's doing when it comes to getting down to business on a film set. Does it get any easier the more you do it? (He he, 'do it'... I'll get my coat) No, not at all. He says such scenes come with great difficulty as 'everybody is a judge'.
The 68-year-old actor is of the belief that cast, crew and eventually moviegoers are more critical of love scenes because, y'know, everyone can relate to such acts of intimacy, as opposed to action and shooting scenes.
Michael - who has a gay sex scene with Matt Damon in new biopic 'Behind the Candelabra' about pianist Liberace - said: 'The hardest thing about sex scenes is that everybody is a judge. - [Ed Note: Is that really the 'hardest' thing about sex scenes? WHA! Again, I'll just get my coat... and go clean my filthy mind.] - I don't know the last time you murdered somebody or blew anyone's brains out, but everyone has had sex, and probably this morning, which means everyone has an opinion on how it should be done.'
Married to Catherine Zeta-Jones with two kiddy-winkles, Douglas has recently fully recovered from throat cancer and is now intent on enjoying his life to the full.
Speaking to The Sunday Times newspaper, he said: 'In the past, on purpose, I've never known what movie I'm going to do next. I never knew how it would feel when I finished a picture.
'Now it feels great to be back at work. Maybe that's the benefit of taking a break with cancer.'
We can't wait to see Douglas back in action and we've no doubt that Behind the Candleabra will be a cinematic treat. Check out the trailer above! It hits Irish cinemas on June 7th.
