Well, it was bound to happen sooner or later, and who better to take it on than the guy who loves explosions and incoherent action?
Having directed 13 Hours, out last year, and given his latest, Transformers: The Last Knight, is due to hit theatres this summer, Michael Bay has been keeping himself busy.
But as well as directing, Bay is big into producing, and in his latest venture he'll produce a flick called Little America.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Bay and his production company Platinum Dunes are set to produce the film from British filmmaker Rowan Athale (Wasteland), who wrote the spec script and is also attached to direct.
It has been described as ‘a futuristic adventure film’ that is ‘sci-fun’.
Set in a dystopian future where a Donald Trump-like president has bankrupted America and China has called in its debts, the Asian giant now owns the U.S., and many Americans have immigrated to China looking for work. The film’s hero is a former America Force Recon member who is hired by a Chinese billionaire to go into an American ghetto and rescue his daughter.
Sources say that it has the tone of John Carpenter’s 1981 film Escape From New York, starring Kurt Russell. Universal has reportedly just won a bidding war for the film’s rights.
