Sadly, Melissa McCarthy is no stranger to online abuse.
However, the more recent abuse has been squarely aimed at the upcoming Ghostbusters reboot which stars herself, Kate McKinnon, Kirsten Wiig and Leslie Jones. Whilst McCarthy has admitted that some of the trailers for it have been less than positive, she's rightly pointed out that A) the film isn't even out yet and B) how can a film destroy your childhood?
"All those comments - ‘You’re ruining my childhood!’ I mean, really. Four women doing any movie on earth will destroy your childhood?", said McCarthy in a recent interview.
“I have a visual of those people not having a Ben (Falcone, her husband), not having friends, so they’re just sitting there and spewing hate into this fake world of the internet. I just hope they find a friend."
As it stands, Ghostbusters is now the most disliked trailer in YouTube history and the film has been the subject of misogynistic hatred for quite some time now, despite the fact that only two trailers have been seen online.
'Cos people on the Internet don't jump to conclusions, right? Of course not. Absolutely not.
