As we reported over the weekend, John Carney's comments on Keira Knightley during the production of Begin Again were less than positive.
In an interview with The Independent (UK), Carney claimed that Knightley travelled with "an entourage" and offered a few disparaging words on Knightley's ability as an actor and as a professional. Carney directed Keira Knightley for Begin Again, a musical drama that starred Mark Ruffalo and Hailee Steinfeld and saw Knightley as a young musician who's unceremoniously dumped by her rock-star boyfriend and finds solance in singing.
Since then, director Mark Romanek has spoken up in Knightley's defence via Twitter. Romanek directed Keira Knightley, Carey Mulligan and Andrew Garfield in the harrowing sci-fi drama Never Let Me Go in 2010.
My experience with #keiraknightley was utterly spectacular on every level. I have no clue what this guy is talking about. #arrogantshithead

With regards to her supposed entourage, Romanek claimed that the only on-set "interference" came from Knightley's mother when she briefly visited the set. Romanek wasn't the only director to comment on both Carney's comments, with Lorene Scafaria commenting that Knightley was "a joy to work with."
.@Lieryn @markromanek I agree with Mark. Keira was a joy to work w/. Present & easy & really, really good at her job. Just lovely.

Scafaria directed Knightley in the indie comedy Seeking A Friend For The End Of The World, alongside Steve Carrell and Adam Brody. So far, Carney hasn't responded to these claims or, indeed, made any public statements on the matter since the story broke. Neither has Knightley, however it remains to be seen if both parties will say silent for much longer.
The only other person we can think of who can corroborate Carney's evaluation would be Mark Ruffalo, her co-star on Begin Again. Mark Ruffalo, over to you.
