Screenwriters and directors are taking inspiration for films from a variety of sources.
While it initially began with novels, it's now expanded to include articles, real-life events, podcasts until now where we're literally making films out of a seasonal hit from 23 years ago.
Yes, the Elusive Chanteuse herself, Mariah Carey is involved in turning All I Want For Christmas (Is You) into an animated film. The song had previously been turned into a children's book, which Carey authored, and it's expected that the children's book will serve as the basis for the film. That children's book was about a young girl who wants a puppy for Christmas, so yeah.
Mariah Carey is no stranger to filmmaking, having just recently turned up in The Lego Batman Movie as the Mayor of Gotham. Carey also had a role in Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping and, uh, Glitter.
