LuckyChap are making the film with Hasbro
If there's one thing to be said about Margot Robbie and her production company, it's that they certainly know how to think outside the box.
The Australian actress had huge success last year, of course, with her adaptation of 'Barbie', and it was recently revealed that LuckyChap, her company, are also developing a film based on PC game 'The Sims'.
Now, they've gone one step further and a live-action film about Monopoly - yes, the board game Monopoly - is in the works. Hasbro Entertainment, who make the game, will also produce it.
It's not yet known how a narrative can be spun out of a board game, but considering it is one of the most iconic board games of all time - selling over half a billion copies since 1935 - and given LuckyChap's success with a film about a doll, you wouldn't bet against it being a hit, either.
The company issued a statement that said: "Monopoly is a top property — pun fully intended. Like all of the best IP, this game has resonated worldwide for generations, and we are so excited to bring this game to life alongside the wonderful teams involved at Lionsgate and Hasbro."
Adam Fogel of distributors Lionsgate, meanwhile, said: “I could not imagine a better production team for this beloved and iconic brand than LuckyChap. They are exceptional producers who choose their projects with great thought and care, and join Monopoly with a clear point of view. We are tremendously excited to be working with the entire LuckyChap team on what we all believe can be their next blockbuster."
