Coming to cinemas probably... never? Who knows at this stage.
Given the spate of musical biopics of late and the prestige that comes with them, it was only a matter of time before Madonna got in on the action.
The singer's Instagram has truly been a scene of chaos since lockdown began in the US, what with her posting videos from her bathtub as well as debunked conspiracy theories. However, last night saw Madonna post a normal enough video in the middle of all this craziness.
The video shows Madonna on her couch next to Oscar-winning screenwriter Diablo Cody as she types away on her laptop, cutting between Madonna shoving nuts up her nose and explaining how the costume in the music video for 'Like A Virgin' worked. The video also shows a number of notebooks and diaries laid out on the coffee table before them, all of it just adding to speculation that Cody is writing a biopic on Madonna's life and career.
Madonna recently ended her decade-long, three-record deal with Interscope Records, with rumours flying that the singer is set to make a return to Warner Records, where she spent most of her career. Obviously, with Warner Records being affiliated with Warner Bros., you can see how this screenplay might fit together.
Interestingly, this isn't the first time a musical biopic on Madge's life has been floated. A script was written by Elyse Hollander called 'Blonde Ambition', which Madonna publicly denounced, even though it topped the prestigious Black List of unproduced screenplays in 2016. Universal eventually ended up buying the script, but so far, nothing has come of it.
Obviously, Madonna is keen to control the story herself rather than have someone else do it, hence why she's got Diablo Cody sitting beside her, writing the script.
Here's the video in question with Diablo Cody.
