Sure they’re remaking everything these days. Nothing is safe, nothing is sacred. Let go of your nostalgia. They remade Ghostbusters, they’re remaking The Lion King – they're out of ideas so there is no film they won't redo.
Anyhoo, rant over, here are the deets released so far for the remake.
Warner Brothers is behind the new film, which will be a musical and has been described by Deadline as ‘a fresh version of the 30-year-old Frank Oz-directed film.’
The 1986 musical film starred many of the comic geniuses of the day including Rick Moranis, Steve Martin, Jim Belushi, John Candy, Christopher Guest and Bill Murray. The film was in turn based on a black comedy of the same name directed by Roger Corman in 1960.
It follows a man who raises a plant, discovers it is carnivorous, and kills to keep it fed.
Greg Berlanti set to direct the new film and Matthew Robinson is penning the script. Berlanti is best-known for being behind DC's television empire: specifically the Arrowverse (Arrow, The Flash, and Legends of Tomorrow) and Supergirl.
Robinson’s past credits include the 2009 Ricky Gervais comedy The Invention of Lying and the upcoming Monster Trucks.
