Considering how badly 'Terminator: Dark Fate' bombed, this shouldn't be a surprise.
Despite the fact that it was the best 'Terminator' movie since 'Terminator 2: Judgment Day' (and that really isn't saying much), 'Terminator: Dark Fate' bombed horrifically at the box office.
As you can expect, it's pretty much sealed its fate for a sequel or another reboot, and for Linda Hamilton, that's just fine. Speaking to THR, Hamilton laid out her feelings on the matter in pretty straightforward terms, and talked about the huge budget behind 'Terminator: Dark Fate' and whether she's hopeful for a sequel.
"It should definitely not be such a high-risk financial venture, but I would be quite happy to never return. So, no, I am not hopeful because I would really love to be done." That's pretty definitive, to say the least. Hamilton kept away from 'Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines' and 'Terminator: Genisys', and barely had a cameo in 'Terminator: Salvation', so it's not surprising that she's ready to be done with it all.
That said, Hamilton made it clear that if "there were something new that really spoke to me, I am a logical person, and I will always consider viable changes." The odds of that happening, mind, seem highly unlikely.
'Terminator: Dark Fate' had a budget of nearly $200 million, and that's not even counting the marketing and release budget, which Variety had pegged between $80 million and $100 million. With a worldwide box office haul of $261 million and no real appetite from audiences for another sequel, the 'Terminator' franchise may finally be at its end.
