And it features a David Bowie track to boot

Get ready to blast off into infinity and beyond in this 'Toy Story' animated prequel film.

Emperor Zurg! Buzz's new companion Sox! Space! Taika Waititi! This 'Lightyear' trailer certainly has it all.

Chris Evans' Buzz will meet plenty of new companions and adversaries while in the deep dark depths of space in this prequel film to the original 'Toy Story' franchise.

The hero and legendary Space Ranger who inspired the action figure toy (first voiced by Tim Allen) will be joined by a group of ambitious recruits in order to rid the world of evil. His new companions will be voiced by Taika Waititi, Keke palmer and Dale Soules.

Peter Sohn will voice Buzz’s robot companion, Sox, and the remainder of the cast also includes the voices of Uzo Aduba, James Brolin, Mary McDonald-Lewis, Efren Ramirez and Isiah Whitlock Jr.

Director Angus MacLane has worked on pretty much every Pixar release in some capacity, but this is his first time helming an animation from the studios by himself. He said of creating this new story for Buzz Lightyear: "Buzz’s world was always something I was excited about. In 'Toy Story', there seemed to be this incredible backstory to him being a Space Ranger that’s only touched upon, and I always wanted to explore that world further.

"So my 'Lightyear' pitch was, 'What was the movie that Andy saw that made him want a Buzz Lightyear toy?' I wanted to see that movie. And now I’m lucky enough to get to make it."

Pixar and Disney previously launched a teaser trailer for the 2022 release, but this is the first time we get to see many new additions to the animation adventure, including the evil Emperor Zurg.

It has also been revealed that award-winning composer Michael Giacchino, who has a long history with Pixar, is on board to score the film.

Here's the action-packed 'Lightyear' trailer, set to David Bowie's 'Starman'.

'Lightyear' launches into theatres on June 17, 2022.
