Everything from 'Back To The Future', 'Mean Girls' and 'The Breakfast Club' feature
With the Irish summer being what it is, there is no guarantee of us having a summer like our European counterparts - that's where the good folks at the Lighthouse Cinema and Pálás come in.
Over the summer months, Dublin and Galway cinephiles will get the chance to see 28 classic teen films, with the season running from July 3rd until September 10th.
There is legitimately something for everyone, with crowd-pleasers such as 'The Breakfast Club', 'Back To The Future' and 'Mean Girls' as well as some cult classics like 'Heathers', 'Donnie Darko', 'Rushmore', and the most innovative screening promises to be a prom-themed screening of 'Carrie'.
The screening of 'Not Another Teen Movie' will be 90s-themed, so fair warning now to people to get their frosted tips and denim ready.
Horror fans have plenty to get their teeth into, with the original 'A Nightmare On Elm Street' on show, as well as films like 'The Faculty', and a marathon screening of the 'Twilight' films.
For fans of a more high-brow vintage, there is a rare chance to see a pre 'Star Wars' George Lucas' take on 50s America with a screening of 'American Grafitti' as well as a screening of the Oscar-nominated film 'Persepolis' which depicts life for a teenage girl in a post-revolution Iran.
On planning the season, Element Cinema programmer Charlene Lydon said "needless to say, it was a dream to put this season together! Teen movies have a brilliant way of reflecting the societies they came from, usually while having a lot of fun."
"This season spans five decades and only skims the surface of the genre but I tried to ensure that many of the main icons of the genre were represented."
Molly Ringwald's star-making turns in 'Pretty in Pink' and The Breakfast Club', and Amy Heckerling’s 'Fast Times At Ridgemont High and 'Clueless' are on the docket.
The season also aims to bring some new classics like 'Eighth Grade' 'Girlhood' and 'Dating Amber' to the conversation."
"This season culminates with a 'Carrie'-themed Prom Party so get your ruffles ready," Lydon added.
