The creepy movie has been compared to 'Midsommar' and 'The Witch'

If you're not a fan of horror movies, we recommend you look elsewhere. But if you enjoy the genre, or just can't help but be a bit curious, here's what you need to know about 'Lamb'.

'Lamb' recently premiered at Cannes, screening as part of the 'Un Certain Regard' section of the film festival. It created quite a stir among critics there.

The movie stars Noomi Rapace, who's most recognisable from her role in 'The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo' (the original Swedish one, not the Daniel Craig/David Fincher edition).

Hilmir Snaer Gudnason and Björn Hlynur Haraldsson co-star with first-time filmmaker Valdimar Jóhannsson in the director's seat.

A24 recently acquired the film for distribution in the US; which makes sense given 'Lamb' has been likened to 'The Witch' and 'Midsommar', which the studio also distributed.

The synopsis for the supernatural horror reads: "A childless couple, María and Ingvar discover a mysterious newborn on their farm in Iceland.

"The unexpected prospect of family life brings them much joy, before ultimately destroying them."

You can watch the trailer for 'Lamb' below. It hits US theatres in October. Its release in Ireland and the UK is TBC.
