Just As The World Falls Down...
Reports of a 'Labyrinth' sequel have been floating around for a while now, as has news of a movie spin-off. There was a four-volume comic sequel published in the 2000s. But now it looks like we're getting an actual follow-up movie.
There is now a director attached to the 'Labyrinth' sequel. And with his rep of directing fantasies verging on horror he seems the right fit. (I mean, we're still haunted by David Bowie's pants in the original...)
Scott Derrickson is the man for the job, in a move that follows his departure from Marvel sequel 'Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness' due to that ever reliable excuse of "creative differences." (Reportedly, his vision for the movie was too scary and weird, even for 'Doctor Strange')
Derrickson directed the first 'Doctor Strange' starring Benedict Cumberbatch in 2016. His past credits also include 'The Exorcism of Emily Rose' and 'Sinister'.
Maggie Levin ('My Valentine', 'Into the Dark') is penning the script while Lisa Henson of The Jim Henson Company is producing. Brian Henson is executive producing, as is Derrickson.
The original 1986 fantasy film 'Labyrinth' has become a cult classic over the years. It portrays a teenage Jennifer Connelly transported to a magical world where she must save her baby brother from the Goblin King.
Music legend David Bowie played the antagonist. He also wrote the music and wore the pants.
The sequel is for TriStar Pictures with no other details just yet.
'Labyrinth' features on season one of our movie podcast, 'The Revisit'.
