A sequel to the huge hit comedy of 2011, Bridesmaids, may go ahead but without the inclusion of its star and writer Kristen Wiig.
If Universal did move ahead with another film, the plan would be for them to do so with Melissa McCarthy as the lead. It's not clear if the director, Paul Feig, would return also as he's naturally heavily in demand after the clams that blockbuster comedy made, so it may take a truck backing up to his house and some decent material before he agrees to come back. The main ingredient of Bridesmaids was Wiig, though, and sceptics will go and damn well be sceptical about her not wanting to return, and Universal Pictures will probably go ahead with it anyway.
I really enjoyed Bridesmaids and I'm sure all of the creative talent involved will go on to other just as fulfilling creative things. The spin-off to Knocked Up, This is Forty, will likely work because it has the same core creative force - namely Judd Apatow. Time will tell.
