Ben Stiller’s Tropic Thunder was the film to finally knock The Dark Knight from its perch, as the action comedy made $26 million for the weekend and $37 million in total since its release on Wednesday, giving the well reviewed film the top spot. Thunder is R rated and has a budget of about $90 million, but the studio hopes star power and excellent reviews will drive its haul up in the long term. Elsewhere Attack of the Clones bowed to an average opening of $15.5 million after some scathing reviews; while Woody Allen film Vicky Christina Barcelona did good business on a limited release, opening with $3.5 million.
