Phoenix will play the legendary French general
Ridley Scott and Joaquin Phoenix have teamed up for the first time since 'Gladiator' on another historical biopic.
'Napoleon' will hit cinemas this November and will be available to stream on Apple TV+ at a later date.
Phoenix will star as the iconic Napoleon Bonaparte, with the film described as "an original and personal look at Napoleon’s origins and his swift, ruthless climb to emperor, viewed through the prism of his addictive and often volatile relationship with his wife and one true love, Joséphine. The film captures Napoleon’s famous battles, relentless ambition and astounding strategic mind as an extraordinary military leader and war visionary."
Vanessa Kirby ('Pieces of a Woman', 'The Crown') will play Joséphine, while other familiar faces will include Scottish actor Mark Bonnar ('Catastrophe', 'Home Fires'), Tahar Rahim ('The Serpent') and Ben Miles ('Coupling', 'The Crown').
