Chris Hemsworth burst onto the scene in 2009 with a memorable 5 minute cameo in an emotional scene as George Kirk, father to the series' central hero James T. Kirk (Chris Pine).
One would think that considering the last time we saw him he was hurtling towards the windshield of the USS Kelvin he wouldn't be making any further appearances in the franchise. JJ Abrams however, has other ideas.
He told Access Hollywood's Scott Mantz that Chris Hemsworth will be involved in a fourth Star Trek movie.

Abrams directed the first two installments of the Star Trek reboot but handed over the directing reins to Justin Lin for Beyond. He still remains involved in the franchise as a producer though which means he would be part of any story discussions for future installments.
Having Hemsworth's George Kirk appear alongside his son would be interesting considering a James Kirk spends some time in Beyond musing about living up to his father. What better way to measure himself against him than by seeing him in action?
