Jimmy Fallon is in talks to host the 2013 Academy Awards, with his Late Night producer Lorne Michaels overseeing Hollywood's biggest backslapping shindig.

There are issues to be worked out between the networks as Fallon presents his late night show on NBC, while the Oscars are broadcast on rival station ABC - home to the fantastic Jimmy Kimmel. ABC weren’t sure on Fallon as they're essentially giving a platform to a rival host and ratings between his and Kimmel's shows are always fairly close. Why wasn't Kimmel considered I here you ponder? Well, the acerbic and effortlessly funny presenter is hosting The Emmy Awards this year and he can't really emcee both.

A deal for Fallon has not yet been closed, but he is a great choice regardless. Kimmel will certainly be in with a chance in the coming years and his show continues to be a fantastic watch - you can watch every episode for free on You Tube.
