Jay Baruchel is an actor whose face you will know, but not quite be able to place. He's popped up in Knocked Up, Tropic Thunder and Nick and Nora's Infinite Playlist, but has only gotten his first bonefide starring role in the upcoming She's Out of My League - a film that has been well received by critics in America as it gears up to open this weekend.
But Baruchel is really doing this whole acting thing as a money earner while he builds towards his real goal, directing: "I was researching film schools, because all I've ever wanted to do is direct horror films in Montreal for the rest of my life. That is the endgame. That is the ultimate motivation. Everything I do is an effort to get to that point. Acting is a way to afford me the opportunity to get to kill people on camera," he told The AV Club.
Brazen honesty from an actor who is obviously yet to be schooled by an army of publicists. If he's still talking like that after a couple of hit movies as an actor, then I'll be shocked. He also has the Jerry Bruckheimer blockbuster The Sorcerer's Apprentice coming out with Nicolas Cage this summer.
