Simon West, the man who brought Tomb Raider to life, will next direct a remake of the Charles Bronsan action film The Mechanic, with our favourite hard bastard Jason Statham in the lead role. The remake is described as a spy thriller in a post 9/11 world; which, one would assume, means lots of conspiracy and paranoia, coupled with the usual satisfying dollop of Statham action. West is a slick director who has lost his way of late; Con Air was one of the biggest guilty pleasures of the 90's, but Tomb Raider and When A Stranger Calls were both shite. Statham is always watchable, though; even if he is still searching for that signature action part - maybe this could be just that.
