The 'Aquaman' and 'Dune' star will lead adaptation of hit game

Aquaman himself will star in the film adaptation of 'Minecraft'.

The long-delayed 'Minecraft' film has seen a revolving door of stars involved with the project.

Steve Carrell was previously attached to star in the film, and 'It's Always Sunny' star Rob McElhenney was slated to direct the film at one stage, and now Jason Momoa is the latest Hollywood star to board the project.

In "we'll believe it when we see it news," The Hollywood Reporter have reported that the 'Dune' is in final negotiations to star in the film.

'Napoleon Dynamite' director Jared Hess is also in talks to direct the film.

'Dune' producer Mary Parent and 'It' producer Roy Lee are attached to produce the film as it looks to pick up steam.

'Minecraft' has sold over 100 million copies since going on sale in 2011, with the game available on just about every gaming platform imaginable.

The game is regarded as the biggest success story in gaming in the 2010s, with developer Mojang acquired by Microsoft for a cool $2.5 billion in 2014.

'Minecraft' is an open-ended game where players use blocks to create just about anything their imagination can think of.

The IMDB logline reads "The malevolent Ender Dragon sets out on a path of destruction, prompting a young girl and her group of unlikely adventurers to set out to save the Overworld," but hasn't been updated since 2019, and the final film will most likely differ from that gripping logline.

Films based on video games have become a hot commodity in Hollywood, with 'Sonic' currently running rings around the box office, 'Uncharted' proving to be a surprise hit and last year's 'Free Guy' launching a franchise.

Jason Momoa will next be seen on our screens in Netflix fantasy fllm 'Slumberland' and will reprise his role as Aquaman in 'Aquaman and The Lost Kingdom' which is due for release next March.
