"I was snorting lines of arrabbiata sauce"

Father, son, and every form of authentic Italian food for Jared Leto.

The film has been on everyone's radar ever since the very first images of Lady Gaga emerged as Patrizia Reggiani, and now that it's in theatres all across the world, it's become a global talking point. While the actor has been vocal about her year-long deep dive into the Italian accent, she's not the only person from the film who was also doing their own method acting. Jared Leto, who plays Paolo Gucci in 'House of Gucci', recently opened up about his own way of prepping for his role.

According to the 49-year-old, who looks unrecognisable as Paolo thanks to a stellar prosthetics and make-up job, says he inhaled as much Italian food as possible to live up to his flamboyant on-screen Italian persona.

He told The Playlist: "I did it all. I was snorting lines of arrabbiata sauce by the middle of this movie, I had olive oil for blood. This was a deep dive I did. If you took a biopsy of my skin, it would come back as parmesan cheese! This is my love letter to Italy.

"There was a lot of work and preparation, and yes, I had an Italian accent, and I enjoyed and embraced that and lived in that space as much as I could, and for as long as I possibly could. I climbed into that creative cave and came out through the bowels and intestines into the oesophagus of the one and only Paolo Gucci."

Jared Leto embodying a character for a film role has not just been contained to his 'House of Gucci' appearance. As an HIV positive trans woman in 'Dallas Buyers Club' he lost an incredible amount of weight'; while his appearance as the Joker in 'Suicide Squad' saw him give out strange gifts to cast members.

Our movies editor at entertainment.ie, Brian Lloyd, also managed to catch up with Jared Leto this week. One moment which the actor spoke about was his first scene with Jeremy Irons' character Rodolfo Gucci.

Leto said that it was a "big" scene: "... this massive confrontation, I had tonnes of lines, it was very verbose, there was a lot going on, I was showing my work. And then of course I was pulling my pr*ck out and pissing on a bespoke Gucci scarf. Which is a lot for your first day on the job."

When probed if he did actually pee, Leto clarified: "No, no, no, no. Of course not. I haven't urinated in years. I wear a diaper, so, yeah."

Ridley Scott's 'House of Gucci' starring Leto, Irons, Lady Gaga and Adam Driver is in cinemas now.
