We chat to James Marsden about shooting the sequel to 'Enchanted'
One of the most highly anticipated sequels in the works at the moment is 'Disenchanted', which follows on from 2007's 'Enchanted'.
James Marsden returns as the cartoon-turned-live-action Prince Edward. Also back for the sequel are Amy Adams as Giselle, Patrick Dempsey as Robert Phillip, and Idina Menzel as Nancy Tremaine.
'Disenchanted' was filmed right here in Ireland with locations across Dublin and Wicklow transformed for the shoot.
James Marsden currently stars in family animation 'The Boss Baby: Family Business' so we chatted to him about his latest and about 'Disenchanted'.
"It was fantastic," he said about shooting in Ireland. "We've been trying to make this movie for 15 years now and we weren't getting younger during those 15 years, so it was like 'Alright, we gotta do this now or else we'll be too old for this.'
"When they said we're shooting in Ireland, I was like 'Fantastic, terrific.'"
Speaking about another experience of shooting here, James Marsden said: "I'd been lucky enough that I went to Ireland only one other time in my life, about 20 years ago for a TV pilot, and went to Dublin as well.
"I had such a great time, the people were so lovely, so welcoming, so genuine and happy.
"We were there during the peak of summer and it was actually hot. I'd brought all these clothes, like jackets and coats, and I was boiling, and the people there were just so happy that they could go to the beaches and enjoy themselves."
The actor had some go-to's for his time in Ireland to. He said: "For me it was like I gotta go to a pub, I gotta have a Guinness. Kind of all obvious things, but I just love it there.
"I think Ireland when you go visit, I can't imagine many people leaving without the feeling of 'I need to get a place here. I want to absorb more of this and have this be my lifestyle more.'
"Just some of the kindest faces I've ever seen and the most welcoming group I've ever come across."
James Marsden spoke of how the country was still somewhat in lockdown during filming, noting that he "was only there for a couple of weeks but wished he could have stayed longer."
