'Avengers: Endgame' has overtaken his 1997 film to rank second-highest-grossing film of all time
He has held a particular box office record for over two decades, but James Cameron has proven gracious in defeat.
The director sent his congratulations to Marvel CEO Kevin Feige as 'Avengers: Endgame' has now surpassed 'Titanic' in terms of box office stats, making it the second-highest-grossing film of all time.
Despite only being released a few weeks ago, 'Avengers: Endgame' has already grossed over $2.188 billion. 'Titanic', released in 1997, grossed $2.187 billion.
Cameron tweeted a message to the studio, saying "An iceberg sank the real Titanic. It took the Avengers to sink my Titanic. Everyone here at Lightstorm Entertainment salutes your amazing achievement. You've shown that the movie industry is not only alive and well, it's bigger than ever!"
However, he can afford to be benevolent, considering that the number one highest-grossing film, 'Avatar', is also his film.
