And Mysterio is not the villain that we thought he was

Massive details about Sony's Spidey sequel, 'Spider-Man: Far From Home' have been revealed by Jake Gyllenhaal.

Next year's 'Spider-Man: Far From Home' will see Tom Holland's Spider-Man head to Europe and face off against Gyllenhaal's villainous Mysterio... or will it?

News coming in from the movie, is that Mysterio might not be all that we've cracked him up to be. Gyllenhaal and co-star Jacob Batalon (who plays Peter Parker's best friend Ned in 'Spider-Man: Homecoming') revealed brand new information on what will be going down in next year's sequel.

The pair appeared at Brazil's Comic Con CCXP earlier in December - please note major spoilers for 'Spider-Man: Far From Home' lie ahead.

Giving a run-down on his role as Mysterio, Gyllenhaal said he actually teams up with Spider-Man. He said, "Well, there are these threats to the world, the Elemental creatures; and Mysterio is someone who knows abut them and who wants to make sure that the world is safe from them. and Nick Fury asks him to come on and help because he’s the only one who really understands them in a way. And he teams up with the Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man and unfortunately he has to make him become more than just a Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man."

Interesting.

Batalon also commented on the tone of the movie, and what we can expect next year. He said, "It’s basically just about the kids going on a European vacation. We go to London, we go to Prague, we go everywhere. It’s just a really fun thing. There’s a lot of dynamics that go on. A lot of relationship stuff. A lot of cool funny stuff. A lot of fun stunt stuff. The main focus is for him not to be Spider-Man per se, but he gets dragged into it. But you know he reluctantly saves the world again with Mysterio. Mysterio’s a good guy in this, they’re both teaming up to kill the game, to defeat these Elemental monsters."

The comic book versions of The Elementals

These "Elemental monsters" are based on their Marvel Comics counterparts. They consist of four extra-dimensional humanoids; leader Hellfire (who can control fire), Hydron (water), Magnum (earth), and Zephyr (air).

So there you have it, Spider-Man might be facing off against four new villains as he journeys across Europe next year. It'll be interesting to see if Mysterio is indeed fighting with the web-slinger, or if his allegiances change throughout the course of the film.

We'll have wait until July 2019 to find out what goes down in 'Spider-Man: Far From Home'.
