Jake Gyllenhaal has officially been crowned the Prince of Persia by Disney, after the talented actor was cast in the lead role of the proposed new Disney franchise. Mike Newell (Four Weddings and a Funeral, Harry Potter) is to direct, while the daddy of the modern box-office, Jerry Bruckheimer, is producing. Disney will be hoping it catches lightning in a bottle again, just as the first Pirates of the Caribbean did a few years back, despite having the crippling handicap of having Orlando Bloom in it. New Bond girl Gemma Arterton has been cast as the obligatory totty, in another high profile role for actress. According to Variety "Gyllenhaal will play Dastan, a prince in sixth-century Persia who must join forces with Tamina (Arterton), a feisty and exotic princess, to prevent a villainous nobleman from possessing the Sands of Time, a gift from the gods that can reverse time and allow its possessor to rule the world".  It will start shooting in July - providing the actors strike is quelled - for a release next summer.
