This is the Wario?
Having survived a very different mushroom kingdom in season one of 'The Last of Us', the internet's favourite hero, Pedro Pascal, could be Mario's greatest nemesis if Jack Black gets his way.
Jack Black has roared his way into the hearts of many thanks to his performance as the voice of Bowser in 'The Super Mario Bros. Movie', turning the iconic villain into something more and giving us one hell of a song to boot.
Musical tribute to Princess Peach aside (and yes, it will be eligible for an Academy Award so the campaign starts here), Black has been thinking about the future of the Mario movie franchise and has some very specific and interesting thoughts about where it could go.
“It’s not a given that Bowser will return,” Black told GameSpot. “You know, I did a few ‘Kung Fu Panda’ movies, and it was a different villain every movie. They may do the same thing.”
“You know, what if there is a more powerful, more evil villain?” Black continued. “Then I may need to be turned to help Mario and the rest to defend our universe against some other unseen force of evil. Are you thinking what I’m thinking? Wario! Pedro Pascal is Wario.”
Consider our interest considerably piqued.
Doing voiceover work is no stranger to Pascal, with 'The Mandalorian' actor dubbing over other stunt actors playing his character at times on the Disney+ series. Plus, if this skit on 'SNL' is anything to go by, there's definitely a weird Lumpy Space Princess side to Pascal that Wario could totally tap into.
Meanwhile 'The Super Mario Bros. Movie' continues to break records at the box office, raking in more cash than 'Frozen 2' did on opening weekend and almost definitely guaranteeing a sequel. Be it Bowser, Wario or someone else from the wider Mario universe (King Boo deserves more than a cameo, let's be real), we're sure the competition to get on board the franchise will be hot.
