Writer, director and producer Ivan Reitman has died at the age of 75.
Ivan Reitman was best-known for helming the comedy classic 'Ghostbusters'.
He also helmed its sequel, while other projects he directed include 'Kindergarten Cop' and 'Junior' with Arnold Schwarzenegger.
He helped launch the career of Bill Murray with such films as 'Meatballs' and 'Stripes', as well as 'Ghostbusters'.
Ivan Reitman was also a prominent producer, his credits including 'National Lampoon’s Animal House', 'Space Jam', 'Up in the Air' and last year’s 'Ghostbusters: Afterlife' (which his son, Jason Reitman, directed).
Children Jason Reitman, Catherine Reitman and Caroline Reitman said in a joint statement: "Our family is grieving the unexpected loss of a husband, father and grandfather who taught us to always seek the magic in life.
"We take comfort that his work as a filmmaker brought laughter and happiness to countless others around the world.
"While we mourn privately, we hope those who knew him through his films will remember him always."
Ivan Reitman died peacefully in his sleep on Saturday night at his home in Montecito, California, his family said.
Reitman's friends, colleagues and contemporaries are paying tribute. They include Paul Feig, Kumail Nanjiani, W. Earl Brown, Diane Warren, and Jon Hurwitz.
