Holy shazbot, is this the first piece of actual concrete non-rumoured-and-definitely-true news surrounding the Fifty Shades of Grey movie? Why yes, yes it is. The mummy porn screen adaptation has at long last nabbed its director. And we're not overly familiar with her. Sam Taylor-Johnson anyone? The biggest string to her directorial bow would be Nowhere Boy.
The official blurb explains the producer's (Michael De Luca) decision to go forth with this director, when the rest of the world (well, those who gave a toss) presumed it'd go to Joe Wright (Atonement, Anna Karenina).
"Sam's unique ability to gracefully showcase complex relationships dealing with love, emotion and sexual chemistry make her the ideal director to bring Christian and Anastasia's relationship to life... E L James' characters and vivid storytelling require a director who is willing to take risks and push the envelope where needed and Sam is a natural fit."
So what you're saying is... this director is one saucy minx.
Commenting herself on having nabbed the job she said: "I am excited to be charged with the evolution of Fifty Shades of Grey from page to screen... For the legions of fans, I want to say that I will honor the power of Erika's book and the characters of Christian and Anastasia. They are under my skin too."
Y'see this worries us, 'cause the books were utter pants. Shouldn't we go with someone who isn't a massive fan of the movies, so as to avoid them becoming overly self indulgent? Someone who's more capable of turning something dire into something semi decent?
In other Fifty Shades news, it's been rumoured that Felicity Jones would take on the role of Anastasia. This would be perfect. You may not know her but she did a fine job in Like Crazy opposite Anton Yelchin. Best to go with a relative unknown here.
