With a release date of July 19th, 2019 announced yesterday, Jon Favreau has got no time to waste in putting together his live action remake of The Lion King.
Luckily, it seems as if he's almost got his voice cast fully assembled. As had already been announced, James Earl Jones will be reprising the role of Mufasa while Donald Glover will be voicing Simba. There have been rumours that Beyonce is in talks to voice Nala but nothing has been agreed as of yet.
Now it looks like two other much loved roles may be about to be filled. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Billy Eichner and Seth Rogen are in talks to voice Timon and Pumbaa, respectively.
In the animated classic, Nathan Lane voiced the loud-mouth meerkat while Ernie Sabella voiced the kindly warthog. Their work is considered to be one of the highlights of the original by many fans so there pressure would very much on Eichner and Rogen to bring something fresh to the characters.
For anyone not familiar with the animated classic, the lively meerkat, Timon, and the gassy warthog, Pumbaa, are the key sidekicks to hero lion cub, Simba. Not only do they rescue him from dehydration and possible death but they are also responsible for singing one of the most iconic songs in Disney history, 'Hakuna Matata'.
