George Clooney is apparently very interested in taking over as Jack Ryan in the Tom Clancy franchise, which last saw an outing with the hit 2002 film starring Ben Affleck, The Sum of All Fears. It was thought that Paramount wanted to reboot the franchise with a younger star, thus giving them more options for future sequels and the like. But Clooney showing an interest may simply be too good to turn down for them, as he does seem like a perfect fit for the material. Spiderman director Sam Raimi was attached at a certain point, when he wanted James Franco to take the role - something Franco denied when I asked him. It's extremely early doors, but Paramount are desperate to get this film going, and Clooney does need a guaranteed money-maker now that the 'Oceans' films have dried up.
