Turning into a saga of sorts, the casting of the ultimate Marvel superhero Captain America took another twist today when it was revealed that charismatic beefy sort, Chris Evans had tested for the role and was being seriously considered by Marvel bosses.

Wolfman director Joe Johnston is directing the film that has seen more rumours fly about than an episode of Gossip Girl - whose star Chase Crawford is also up for the part. Seeminly a beacon for all up and coming actors in Hollywood, star of The Office, John Krasinski was though to be the favourite until news this morning emerged about Evans.

Drew McWeeney at Hitfix.com posted a very interesting article looking at the positives and negatives of each actor. Captain America is first and foremost a leader; someone who must take control of The Avengers group that will see Robert Downey Jr's Iron Man, Edward Norton's Hulk and Chris Hemsworth's Thor, in that eventual movie. Krasinki's obvious affability in The Office doesn't scream leader, but I still think it'd be hugely interesting casting. Recently, comedian Dane Cook and two of The Jonas Brothers announced they also auditioned. And that fat guy from Lost. Probably.
