'Booksmart' hits Irish cinemas on Monday, May 27th
In an exclusive for Irish media, we got to sit down with Olivia Wilde to chat about her feature debut, 'Booksmart'.
Olivia Wilde is known for her roles in TV series like 'House' and 'The OC' and films like 'Tron: Legacy' and 'Drinking Buddies'. She has Irish ancestry and studied at the Gaiety School of Acting as well as frequenting Ardmore in her youth. She first impressed as a director after helming the Red Hot Chili Pepper's music video for "Dark Necessities". Now with 'Booksmart', she's solidified her rep as one to keep an eye on.
The teen comedy tells the story of two BFF high school students, Amy (Kaitlyn Dever) and Molly (Beanie Feldstein). Having spent school buried in their studies, they decide to hit the town and party hard the night before graduation.
It's an instant classic and made us laugh harder than any movie in a long time.
Olivia Wilde talks to us about how she knew 'Booksmart' was special and why she thinks its cast are the new 'Brat Pack'.
She also talks about why she chose not to star in the film, as other actor-turned-directors tend to do. She also addresses struggling with being taken seriously as a director having come from an acting background.
