We haven't even had a chance to sit through this year's Oscars. but already the 2016 Oscars are being lined up at Sundance Film Festival.

It's a strong year for the Irish, with Gerard Barrett's new film Glassland winning huge praise from audiences and critics alike.

Meanwhile, John Crowley, who previously directed Intermission and Boy A, has secured a $9,000,000 deal with Fox Searchlight for his new film, Brooklyn.

Based on the novel by Colm Toibin, it tells the story of a young Irishwoman (Saoirse Ronan) in 1950's rural Ireland who leaves everything behind to make a new life in Brooklyn, New York.

There, she begins a passionate affair with an Italian-American yet still finds herself torn between her old life and her future in America.

Variety has tipped Brooklyn for Oscar gold in 2016, praising both Ronan's performance and a stirring screenplay adapted by High Fidelity's Nick Hornby.

No Irish release date has been confirmed, although don't be at all surprised if it has an Irish premiere at this year's JDIFF.
